Court Clears Gonzalez

MADRID -- Spain's Supreme Court investigator found no evidence linking outgoing Prime Minister Felipe Gonzalez to charges related to a 1980s "dirty war" against Basque separatists, court sources said Thursday.

They said the court would not request parliamentary permission to have Gonzalez testify and would "in all probability" issue a writ rejecting the complaints filed against him.

A report by the prosecutor investigating accusations that Gonzalez's Socialist government ran death squads targeting Basque rebels showed there was no proof he was involved, the sources said. The squads killed 27 people
