Brussels Bourse Wired

BRUSSELS () -- The Brussels Bourse used chalk and a blackboard to quote share prices for the last time Friday, before its new computerized trading system takes over in earnest Monday.

"Today is the day when our trading floor empties," bourse director Olivier Lefebvre said in a speech, given just ahead of the last open outcry session to be held in the 19th-century bourse palace.

On Monday, the Belgian shares on the small-capitalization cash market will move to an order-driven electronic trading system, bought from the Paris bourse and adapted to local needs.
