Blast in Georgia Kills 3

TBILISI, Georgia -- Three people were killed and about 30 injured when a blast ripped through a grocer's shop on a packed street of the Georgian capital Tbilisi on Tuesday, the Interior Ministry said.

Upon learning of the blast, President Eduard Shevardnadze broke off a visit to Belgium and Luxembourg to return to Tbilisi.

A Security Ministry spokesman said a propane gas tank appeared to have exploded in the shop. But the head of the city police, Demur Mikadze, had said earlier the blast could have been deliberate. "We cannot rule out the possibility that it was a bomb," he said.
