WHAT THE PAPERS SAY

Squealing Parrot

A parrot with a built-in alarm is stolen.

A certain soldier K., with his girlfriend, broke into an apartment and stole, among other things, a parrot. Meanwhile, its owner had told the merchants at the central Kaliningrad pets market what her beloved pet might say.

At the market, a vigilant old woman reported her suspicions to a militsia officer. The parrot led the militsia directly to the thieves, who had also taken 11 million rubles from its owner's apartment.

Grateful Workers

Food coupons stave off a strike.

Workers from Lyudinovsky diesel engine factory could not remember the last time they were paid. A strike was in the air. So the management solved the problem by providing the workers and engineers with coupons to buy food in the factory's cafeteria. The grateful workers now fondly refer to these coupons as "Buzunchiks," in honor of the general director, Oleg Buzun.
