Ukraine Visit Promised

MOSCOW ) -- President Boris Yeltsin confirmed his intention of making an official visit to Ukraine in April to sign a "large-scale" bilateral treaty and an agreement on the Black Sea Fleet during his regular monthly meeting with Duma Speaker Gennady Seleznyov, Seleznyov said Tuesday, Interfax reported.

Yeltsin also said if the Duma considered the draft Land Code in the second reading in April, he could delay the issue of the decree regulating the use of land announced earlier, Seleznyov said. The draft Land Code was approved in the first reading July 26, 1995.

On the subject of the START II nuclear disarmament treaty, Seleznyov said Yeltsin did not mention any exact time for ratification. Seleznyov said he told Yeltsin deputies were concerned "because when the Russian and Ukrainian presidents signed this treaty there was no issue of NATO expansion eastward."
