Sudan Accuses Egypt

KHARTOUM, Sudan ( -- Sudan has accused Egypt of shelling the disputed region of Halaib, an arid border enclave that the two Arab countries almost went to war over last year. Egypt dismissed the charge as propaganda.

The Sudan News Agency said Tuesday that in the past few days the Egyptian military had undertaken "intensive activity" in this region and that shelling and explosions had been heard. It did not say whether there were any injuries or damage.

Both Egypt and Sudan claim Halaib, an area near the Red Sea populated largely by nomads with Sudanese roots.
