St. Pete AIDS Up 10%

MOSCOW () -- The number of people with AIDS in St. Petersburg has grown by 10 percent since the beginning of the year, a local medical center told Interfax.

A spokesman for the Northwestern Regional Center for the Prevention and Fight Against AIDS said 13 people had been diagnosed with the disease this year. The far northern Vologda Region and Republic of Karelia in 1995 registered their first AIDS cases, two and one respectively. Arkhangelsk and Novgorod regions and the Komi Republic recorded one case each.
