Sperm Bank Sued

CINCINNATI () -- A couple who used a sperm bank to have children because they both carried the gene that causes cystic fibrosis have sued the facility after they wound up with a child afflicted by the disease.

Joedy and Ute Cook of suburban Cincinnati filed the suit this week in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court against the sperm bank, Cryobiology of Columbus, Ohio, and a lab that did screening work for the bank, the Cincinnati Enquirer said Friday.

Cook gave birth to triplets eight months ago after the in vitro fertilization procedure. One of the children has the severe respiratory disease while the other two do not. The suit seeks an unspecified but substantial sum of money to pay for medical bills for the child.
