Poland Silent March

WARSAW () -- Students organized a silent march through Warsaw on Thursday, spearheading wider protests across Poland against rising casual criminal violence.

The so-called "black march" was prompted by the death of 20-year-old Warsaw Polytechnic engineering student Wojciech Krol, shot as he walked down a city-center street last Sunday by bandits who had robbed a man in a nearby doorway.

The Polytechnic students' union said the afternoon march to government offices via the flower-marked crime scene did not aim to suggest concrete solutions to criminal violence, but only to call for something to be done.
