Pistons Coach Fined

NEW YORK () -- The National Basketball Association has fined Detroit Pistons coach Doug Collins $5,000 for telling his players not to defend on the final play of Tuesday night's game against the Orlando Magic. Orlando's Anthony Bowie called a timeout with 2.7 seconds left and the Magic leading by 20 points in order to have a chance at a triple double by getting his 10th assist.

Collins, angered by the prolonging of a lopsided defeat, told his players not to defend on the final play and the Pistons left the court before the clock expired, allowing the Magic to end the game with an uncontested basket.

"While Orlando's conduct may have been inappropriate and unsportsmanlike, a coach cannot respond by allowing his team to walk off the court before the conclusion of the game," said NBA Vice President Rod Thorn, who announced the fine on Wednesday.
