More or Less Spying

MOSCOW () -- Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service, or SVR, stung by allegations that it was spying more in Britain, said Friday that changing priorities meant it was actually spying less, Interfax said.

Interfax, quoting Tatyana Samolis, SVR spokeswoman, said spying activities in Britain had fallen because there were no disputes between the two sides.

The British parliament's Intelligence and Security Committee said Thursday that spying by Russia was on the rise again, although the intelligence service's "operational effort" -- a euphemism for spying -- had fallen by two-thirds.
