Metal Imports to Rise

MOSCOW () -- Russian production of non-ferrous metals will increase this year, but rising domestic demand will keep exports roughly steady, a senior official said Tuesday.

Serafim Afonin, chairman of the State Committee on Metallurgy, said aluminum output is expected to rise by 2.8 percent, refined copper by 6.8 percent, nickel by 2 percent, zinc by 20 percent, lead by 77 percent, and magnesium by 1 percent.
