Manila Discos Shut

MANILA () -- Two days after a fire in a packed disco that has killed at least 152 people, Philippine authorities said Thursday they have closed two dozen discos and nightclubs found to be fire hazards.

Several inspection teams checked night spots in Metro Manila, looking for more potential firetraps like the Ozone Disco Pub, which was destroyed by the worst fire in modern Philippine history shortly after midnight Monday.

Four discos near the Ozone in suburban Quezon City were among those ordered closed. In Pasay City, also in Metro Manila, 18 nightclubs and discos were padlocked, said Mayor Pablo Cuneta.
