Lithuania Faces Cutoff

VILNIUS () -- The state-owned gas company of the Baltic state of Lithuania said Friday that Russian gas giant Gazprom has threatened to cut off gas supplies if Lithuania does not pay its bills. The government, facing a cash crunch in the wake of a banking crisis, has said it will take bank loans to pay off Gazprom, on which Lithuania depends for most of its gas.

"Gazprom may stop sending us gas on April 1 if we do not pay," said a spokesman for Lithuanian Gas.
