India-Russia Hot Line

NEW DELHI () -- India and Russia will revive a "hot line" telephone link for their leaders to hold crisis talks as they did during the Cold War, officials said Friday.

They said a dedicated telephone link between the offices of the Indian prime minister and the Russian president would be activated after Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov arrives on a two-day visit to New Delhi on Saturday.

The original line was used by then-prime minister Indira Gandhi and former Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev. It was disconnected after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
