Hutu Rebels Kill 70

KIRUNDO, Burundi () -- Hutu rebels killed more than 70 civilians in five days of attacks in northwest Burundi, raising fears that a new bout of intense bloodshed was starting, UN security sources said Tuesday.

The sources said eight more people were killed in a series of ambushes in the north last weekend as a result of increased activity by Hutu rebels in the tiny central African country.

"Seventy-three people were killed in a number of attacks on the civilian population between February 23 and 28," said a UN security source in Bujumbura who refused to be identified.
