German Wins Overall

KVITFJELL, Norway () -- Katja Seizinger became the first German in 20 years to capture the overall World Cup title when she finished third in the last downhill event of the season Wednesday on the slope on which she won the Olympic gold medal in 1994.

Seizinger finished ahead of her closest rivals, Anita Wachter of Austria and fellow German Martina Ertl, and that was enough to give her the title with three races left in the season.

The last downhill went to Heidi Zurbriggen, 28, a Swiss veteran who had never won a World Cup race.
