Gerashchenko Tapped

MOSCOW () -- Shareholders in Mezhdunarodny Moskovsky Bank on Monday elected former Central Bank head Viktor Gerashchenko chairman of its board of directors, Interfax reported.

Gerashchenko replaces Ilkka Salonen, acting chairman since Vyacheslav Sudakov, who headed the bank since its founding in 1989, stepped down in November to accept a new post.

Gerashchenko, 59, served as Central Bank chief from 1992 to 1994. He was widely viewed as an advocate of inflationary credits and was sacked following the ruble crash in October 1994.
