Fiat Targets Ukraine

TURIN () -- Bus and lorry maker Iveco NV, a Fiat SpA subsidiary, said Wednesday it plans to raise its vehicle production in Ukraine to as many as 30,000 units in 2000 from an expected 2,000 units in 1996.

"We will create a new truck market in Ukraine to meet the needs of new customers -- private entrepreneurs who transport goods," Roberto Borsa, Iveco's vice president for international operations, said in an interview in Turin.

Iveco will carry out its plans for Ukraine through two joint ventures that likely will increase its investment to a combined $130 million by 2000 from $78 million now, Borsa said.
