Europe Going Gray

BRUSSELS () -- Europe's population is graying, the European Commission said Monday, and the number of people over 60 will jump by almost 50 percent by 2025.

Overall population figures are expected to stay stable, however, and could fall slightly if the number of migrant workers is "moderated" and recent fertility rates continue, it said.

Barring unforeseen events, the number of over-60s will rise from 76.3 million in 1995 to 113.5 million in 2025.
