Cubans Re-Routed

DALLAS () -- The Cuban volleyball team's charter company has booked return transportation through Mexico after Tuesday's tour finale in Houston.

The team, playing a five-city U.S. tour with the United States, appeared to have been stranded by sanctions -- including a moratorium on charter travel to the island nation -- imposed by President Bill Clinton after Cuba shot down two unarmed civilian American planes.

Because of sanctions against Cuba and its leader, no American funds legally could be applied to the team's travel plans. However, the team can travel through Mexico because that country has no sanctions against Cuba.
