Cricket Boss to Quit

LONDON () -- Ray Illingworth is reportedly set to stand down as England manager, pre-empting discussion of his role at Tuesday's Test and County Cricket Board executive committee meeting at Lord's.

Illingworth, re-elected unopposed last week as England's chairman of selectors after David Graveney withdrew his candidature, told The Times newspaper, "We need a younger man as manager and I have made my own recommendation. It is up to them now."

Ex-players David Lloyd, John Emburey and Phil Neale are the main candidates to take over and one board member has suggested Ian Botham.

Illingworth had already indicated he did not want to tour again, but would originally had been willing to manage the side at home to India and Pakistan this season.
