Briton Sets New Mark

CARDIFF, Wales () -- British swimmer Mark Foster set a world's best in the 50-meter butterfly, clocking 24.07 seconds to shave 0.2 off the old mark.

In a specially-arranged race against countrymen James Hickman and Jamie Salter Tuesday, Foster beat the time of Sweden's Jan Karlsson set in July 1994.

The performance will now go to swimming's world body FINA for ratification as a world's best. Because it is not an Olympic or world championship distance, it cannot be called a world record.
