Baltic Dispute Flares

RIGA, Latvia () -- A dispute over fishing rights between two former Soviet republics in the Baltics has flared after Estonian border guards detained a Latvian boat in the Gulf of Riga.

Estonia on Tuesday said it would apologize after its guards detained and boarded a Latvian fishing boat Sunday. The Latvian Foreign Ministry had lodged an official protest.

On Monday, Estonia banned imports of pork and pork products from Latvia, saying the measure was caused by an outbreak of swine fever in Latvia.
