Accomodating Baker Jailed in Crackdown

NETANYA, Israel -- A baker who let his Palestinian employee sleep at work overnight was sent to jail for three months Tuesday, as Israel toughens its policies following a devastating series of bomb attacks.

Police arrested four other employers in Tel Aviv for violating an army order that usually only brings a warning or a fine to Israeli employers.

Shai Natan, 27, broke the order forbidding Palestinians to stay overnight in Israel when he allowed his employee to sleep at his bakery in coastal Netanya.

Police said the employee was the father of Raed Shaghnoubi, the bomber who blew himself up on a Jerusalem bus Sunday, killing himself and 18 others.

Natan was arrested Tuesday morning, and sentenced the same day in Netanya Magistrate's Court to the maximum six-month sentence: three months in jail, and three months' community service.
