Ukraine Sells 100 Firms

KIEV () -- Ukraine approved a list of 100 large firms to be privatized with foreign participation Wednesday in a clear sign Kiev hopes to speed up stalled efforts to sell off large chunks of the state sector.

Foreign investors will be allowed to buy stakes in the firms -- including an oil refinery, steel mills and a small airport -- on a competitive basis, a government resolution said.

The State Property Fund has been given an April deadline to prepare the firms for privatization.

The list of firms includes steel mills in the cities of Mariupol, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizha and a shipyard in the Black Sea port of Mykolayiv.
