Tycoon to Face Trial

FRANKFURT () -- Property tycoon Juergen Schneider arrived back in Germany on Friday to face trial nearly two years after he and his wife fled the country as his empire collapsed.

Schneider, 61, and his wife, Claudia, 50, arrested last May in Miami, were taken into custody at the Frankfurt airport. A judge ordered the couple to be held in prison until prosecutors file charges against them, probably in the summer. A trial is not expected to begin before the end of the year.

Schneider fell from grace in 1994 when he and his wife vanished amid fraud allegations relating to the collapse of his group under more than 5 billion marks ($3.5 billion) of debt.
