Soyuz Meets Mir, Late

A spacecraft arrived at the Mir station Friday, carrying two cosmonauts to replace a crew of two Russians and one German whose stay was extended six weeks when Moscow ran low on money.

The Soyuz TM-23, piloted by Yury Onufrienko, 35, and Yury Usachev, 38, docked with Mir at 5:23 p.m. Moscow time, the mission control center said.

Russians Yury Gidzenko and Sergei Avdeyev and Thomas Reiter of the European Space Agency have been on Mir since September, conducting biological, geophysical and technological experiments. They are set to return Thursday.
