Skater Closes on Cup

VAL D'ISERE, France () -- Katja Seizinger of Germany took her fourth women's World Cup event of the season Friday to begin a weekend of four speed races in this French winter resort.

Seizinger was timed in 1 minute, 11.32 seconds and moved close to the overall World Cup lead with her victory. It was her 21st career win and ninth in super-G, including two this year. She also won a downhill and a giant slalom this season.

Second was Austrian Renate Goetschl, whose time of 1:11.58 prevented a German sweep with Hilde Gerg third in 1:11.71 and Martina Ertl fourth in 1:11.73 on a course that dropped 510 meters through 34 gates.
