Sanders Drops Baseball

IRVING, Texas () -- Deion Sanders was expected to announce Tuesday afternoon that he is putting his two-sport career on hold to concentrate on being the National Football League's only two-way player, a source said.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and coach Barry Switzer were to attend a news conference Sanders called.

Sanders, whose $2.5 million baseball contract expired last year with the San Francisco Giants, has decided not to try to hook up with a team in time for spring training. Instead, he'll take a year off to spend more time with his family and let his body recover from the wear and tear of an extended two-sport career.

He played mainly on defense and occasionally on offense after signing a $35 million football contract last season.
