Russia-Latvia Accord

ST. PETERSBURG () -- Russia and Latvia have signed an agreement to cooperate in guarding their common border, particularly to prevent smuggling and illegal immigration.

The deal was signed Monday in St. Petersburg by General Andrei Nikolayev, head of Russia's border guards, and Leonid Lasmani, commander of Latvia's border troops, Itar-Tass said.

Under the deal, the two border services will exchange information and engage in joint investigations, the report said. Interfax said Russia has signed similar agreements with Estonia and Lithuania.
