Rabin Trial Recesses

TEL AVIV () -- The Yitzhak Rabin murder trial recessed Thursday until March 3 while killer Yigal Amir undergoes more psychiatric tests that his lawyers said could lead to a new defense strategy focused on his emotional state.

Amir, 25, a right-wing Israeli opposed to peace moves with the Arabs, fired three shots into the Israeli prime minister after a Tel Aviv peace rally Nov. 4. He had resisted an insanity defense but underwent psychiatric tests this month ordered by the court.

Asked if Amir's attorneys were considering such a defense, lawyer Shmuel Fleishman said, "We're waiting for the results of the psychiatric examination."
