NATO Head Plans Visit

MOSCOW () -- NATO Secretary General Javier Solana plans to visit Moscow in March to try to persuade Russia that plans by the Western alliance to expand eastward are not directed against its former Cold War enemy.

No dates have been set yet for the visit, Interfax said.

Russia is extremely sensitive about NATO's efforts to extend the alliance's reach to the former Soviet bloc nations on Russia's western border, particularly Poland and the three Baltic republics.
