Lightning Wins, Climbs Into Playoff Berth

BUFFALO, New York -- The Tampa Bay Lightning gave Daren Puppa an early lead, and the goaltender stopped 26 shots en route to a 5-2 victory over the Sabres.

Puppa, who played seven-plus season for Buffalo, helped bring Tampa Bay into a tie with Boston for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with his fourth victory in six games Sunday.

Jason Wiemer, John Cullen, Chris Gratton, Shawn Burr and Rob Zamuner scored for Tampa Bay, which had lost three of its last four games. Derek Plante and Jason Dawe scored for the Sabres, who have lost nine of their last 11.

Canucks 4, Jets 2. In Winnipeg, Manitoba, the Vancouver Canucks scored a relatively easy win over the Jets.

Russ Courtnall and Trevor Linden broke a tie game to lift the Canucks to 19-20-13, strengthening their hold on second spot in the Pacific Division.

Blackhawks 4, Mighty Ducks 1. In Anaheim, California, Chris Chelios scored twice and Jeff Shantz ended a 46-game goal-scoring drought as the Chicago Blackhawks ran their unbeaten streak to seven games with a 4-1 victory over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

Islanders 5, Stars 3. In Uniondale, New York, Zigmund Palffy's tie-breaking goal, his 20th of the season, with 7:11 remaining lifted the New York Islanders over the Dallas Stars 5-3.
