King Wants Site Swap

NEW YORK () -- U.S. Fed Cup captain Billie Jean King has said the United States would balk at playing in Germany with Monica Seles on the team if the two nations advanced to a showdown in the semifinals this summer.

"I don't think we should go to Germany because of Monica," King said Monday. "If we have to play Germany, we should have a neutral place," she said."Definitely. There is not even a question."

Seles, sidelined for more than two years before coming back last summer after being stabbed in the back during a match in Hamburg in April 1993, has vowed not to play in Germany.

The U.S. Fed Cup team must win in Austria, and Germany must prevail against Japan in opening-round matches April 27-28 to set up a semifinal clash July 13-14.
