'Fowl Play' Forbidden

MURRAYFIELD, Scotland () -- Scottish rugby officials have warned French fans against "fowl play'' in Saturday's Five Nations match between Scotland and France.

The French supporters are known for smuggling cockerels -- young roosters and a French national symbol -- into recent international matches. This kind of gamesmanship will be banned, a Scottish official said Tuesday.

"This causes disruption to the game and, just as importantly, stress to the birds which are illegally smuggled into the country,'' Scottish Rugby Union's head of safety and security, Ian McCulloch, said.

"It will also cause distress to the person concerned as he or she may face criminal proceedings and will be escorted from the stadium without seeing the game,'' he added.
