Firms Record Losses

MOSCOW ( -- One-third of all Russian companies made losses in 1995, and coal mining and agriculture produced especially bad results, Interfax said Tuesday.

Interfax, quoting figures from the State Statistics Committee, said 57 percent of agricultural enterprises and 49 percent of mines recorded losses last year.

Losses totaled 31 trillion rubles ($6.5 billion) at the end of 1995, including 10.4 trillion rubles from industrial enterprises, and losses at most companies increased in 1995 from 1994 levels. The agency gave no details of how it assessed the figures.
