Fewer Jets to Be Sold

SINGAPORE () -- Russia said Friday it had agreed to supply Sukhoi Su-27 interceptors to China, but the number is far fewer than media reports suggested.

"Yes, the contract is signed," said Russian defense official Edward F. Neimark at the Asian Aerospace trade show in Singapore when asked about reports that Moscow had agreed to supply Su-27 warplanes to China

But he said the numbers involved would be "several times less than 72," a figure mentioned in reports from Washington.
