Device Discovered In London Center

LONDON -- British police said Thursday they made safe a device found in the heart of London's theater district after receiving several coded bomb threats less than a week after an IRA bomb killed two people.

It caused chaos with visitors cleared from the British capital's prime tourist attractions and actors trapped in theatres in the Shaftesbury Avenue area.

A police spokeswoman said several coded bomb threats had been received shortly after midday but could not give any further information about the device. Police were limiting access and attempting to clear the area.
