Citibank Returns To St. Petersburg

Citibank returned to St. Petersburg on Wednesday, opening its first branch in the city since the Bolsheviks nationalized its Russian office in 1917.

"We would not be complete in our Russia operations if we did not have a branch in St. Petersburg," said Citibank vice chairman William Rhodes.

Citibank opened a branch in Moscow in 1994 through its wholly owned Russian subsidiary Citibank T/O. Citibank is the third foreign bank to open a working branch in the city since the Soviet Union's 1991 collapse.
