Caspian Pipe Breaks

BAKU, Azerbaijan ( -- A storm in the Caspian Sea on Friday, caused by winds of up to 28 meters per second, has caused a break in an underwater gas pipeline which daily delivers 3.5 million cubic meters of gas from sea rigs.

The accident cut gas supplies by almost one-third and left all Western Azerbaijan without gas.

Rakhman Kurbanov, head of the Azerbaijani state company extracting oil and gas at sea, told Interfax that divers will begin repair work on the pipe after the storm dies down.
