Cardiff Park Re-Arms

CARDIFF () -- The Welsh National Stadium, which for decades was known as the Cardiff Arms Park, is to be transformed into one of the most modern in Europe with a ?106 million ($163.5 million) facelift.

The Millennium Commission was expected Friday to approve the allocation of ?46 million from national lottery funds, which will help transform the stadium, the ancestral home of Welsh rugby, into a modern, glittering complex with a retractable roof and corporate hospitality.

The Welsh Rugby Union has lined up a further ?60 million in loans to reconstruct the stadium into a 75,000-seater venue with modern facilities in time for the 1999 World Cup.
