Belarus Sees Growth

MINSK () -- Belarus' gross domestic product this year will be on par with last year's or grow by 1 percent, reversing a downward trend in place since the break-up of the Soviet Union, the head of the central bank said.

Acting bank chairman Nikolai Kuznich gave no absolute figures during a presentation to parliament of central bank policy Wednesday.

He said this year's fudget deficit was forecast at 2.7 percent of GDP, about equal to last year's figure. Average monthly inflation was planned at no more than 2.5 percent, which would be down significantly from last year's 10.8 percent.
