$6 Debt Sparks Killings

MOSCOW ( -- A young manager of a station in the Ural mountains murdered a man who refused to pay back a debt and then knifed seven more people to death, including three children, Itar-Tass reported Friday.

Alexei Furkalov told police he killed a man identified only as A. Perepelkin because he would not pay back a debt of 30,000 ($6), Itar-Tass reported.

However, Furkalov, 23, could not say why he then killed another man, three women, and three boys aged 6 to 10 years on Thursday in the town of Kartaly-6 in the Chelyabinsk region of the Ural Mountains, the agency said.

Furkalov, who is married and has a child, had no previous police record.
