Hatred' Fine Levied

AMSTERDAM () -- The most prominent Dutch far-right politician was convicted Monday of inciting racial hatred and fined 3,000 guilders ($1,724), a court spokesman said.

Hans Janmaat, leader of the far-right Centrum Democrat party and a member of the Dutch parliament, made the offending statements on Dutch television and radio between 1989 and 1991.

Janmaat will be jailed for 40 days if he refuses to pay the fine.
