Wallabies Beat Scots

EDINBURGH () -- A personal kicking haul of 19 points from full-back Matt Burke hoisted Australia's rugby union squad to a 29-19 victory over Scotland to maintain his side's unbeaten record on their European tour.

The Wallabies never hit top gear in perfect conditions and were again indebted to Burke, who contributed 20 points in their recent 40-18 win over Italy, in an encounter which mostly failed to live up to expectations.

Australia led 19-6 at the interval thanks to four penalties and a conversion from Burke in addition to a close-range try from lock Warwick Waugh in the 14th minute.

Centre Daniel Herbert scored a second with 12 minutes to go, but despite second-half scores from wings Kenny Logan and Tony Stanger, the Scots were never close enough to mount a serious challenge.

Australian flanker Owen Finegan earned himself the dubious distinction of being the first player in international rugby to be substituted for reasons other than injury.

Following the recent law change by the International Board allowing tactical substitutions, he was replaced with 15 minutes left by ACT team mate Brett Robinson.
