Phillies Pick Francona

PHILADELPHIA () -- Terry Francona, who last season was third-base coach for the Detroit Tigers, the worst team in baseball with 109 losses, was Wednesday named manager of Philadelphia, the second-worst team with 95 losses.

"One of our goals is to overachieve," Francona said of his expectations for 1997.

Also, left-handed reliever Scott Radinsky, who two years ago wondered if he'd ever pitch again after learning he had Hodgkin's disease, signed a two-year, $1.8 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
