Mexico Faces Elections

NEZAHUALCOYOTL, Mexico () -- Mexico's ruling party fights Sunday to keep its long-held grip on political power in the crucial Mexico state, amid growing unhappiness with a two-year-old economic crisis that has thrown millions out of work.

At stake Sunday in Mexico state -- the nation's largest with 11.7 million residents -- are 122 mayoralties and the 75-seat local congress. A whopping 6 million people are registered to vote.

Also Sunday, voters in the state of Coahuila will elect 38 mayors and a 32-seat state legislature. Voters in the rural state of Hidalgo will choose 84 mayors.
