Man United Snubbed

LONDON () -- Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson was reported to have been snubbed in a ?12 million ($18 million) bid to bring Euro 96 hero Oliver Bierhoff to Old Trafford.

Bierhoff, 28, whose golden goal against the Czech Republic in extra time at Wembley clinched the Germans' European Championship triumph, has been reported as being unsettled at Italian club Udinese.

Amid conflicting reports, the Italian serie A club at first hotly denied they had received an offer by United. But Carlo Piazzolla, the northern side's director general, later apparently changed his position.

He admitted he had spoken to majority shareholder Giampaolo Pozzo who claimed United had offered 30 billion lire for the player, which had been rejected.
