Lithuanians to Polls

VILNIUS, Lithuania () --Lithuanians voted Sunday in the second round of a parliamentary election that is expected to seal the political comeback of independence hero Vytautas Landsbergis in the former Soviet republic.

Polling stations in the Baltic state opened at 7 a.m. and were to close at 9 p.m. The final result may not be known for several days.

But it was expected to confirm the return to power of Landsbergis, the 65-year-old stocky, bearded former music professor who led Lithuania's bid to free itself from the Soviet Union.

The second round of the election works on a majority vote system with the 65 seats up for grabs to be won by candidates with the highest number of votes.

A total of 130 candidates are standing.
